5 Unnatural Chemicals in Our Food


Talk to any 80 year old and you’ll realize that there’s only a few things in life more important than your health. Today I want to talk to you about some of the chemicals in our food and why it’s important to eat food as close to how nature intended as possible.

Many of the items below are banned in countries outside of America. If an item has a star* at the end, it’s banned in *at least* one other developed country.

Plastic Containers Contaminating Our Food with Bisphenol A

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an Endocrine Disruptor. Endocrine disruptors can produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune issues. They do this by mimicking our own body’s hormones such as estrogen and androgen.

BPA leeches into our food and our body recognizes it as a hormone produced by our own body. BPA is an “Obesogen”, which means that it causes weight gain regardless of the amount of calories you consume. Let’s not forget about the studies that link it to infertility, cancer, cardiovascular issues, and impaired brain development in fetuses and babies.

Synthetic Growth Hormones*

These are used to make cows produce more milk. Even though birth defects and a host of other problems are created for the cows when on these hormones, most food companies continue to use them and assure us that eating those hormones in the meat won’t affect our health.

I don’t know about you, but if a substance has major effects on the animal it’s used on, I think it will have similar long term affects on the consumers that eat the animal.

Artificial Dyes*

Food dyes are used to make food look more appealing. They are found in almost all processed food. Unfortunately, they have been found to cause hyperactivity in otherwise healthy children and carry allergy and cancer risks as well. But, but, we have to make your food really red…

This is just another reason why you should be feeding your children farm to table meals as much as possible.


I’m not joking. Arsenic is added to animal feed for the *FDA-approved* purposes of inducing faster weight gain on less feed. It also creates the perceived appearance of a healthy color in meat from chickens, turkeys, and pigs.

It’s fine though, your body will get rid of arsenic. Arsenic really only becomes an issue in large doses or when exposed for greater than 10 years. After 10 years, you’re starting to increase your rate of cancer. I mean who eats meat for more than ten years of their life. Really.

Potassium Bromate*

Potassium Bromate is used to help strengthen bread and encourage higher rising. It’s linked to everything from cancer to kidney damage and thyroid problems. It’s not like this has been known for 30 years.


So what should we do about all of this? Learning more about the food industry is a good start. After that, we should be eating food as close to how nature intended us. Jungle sourced spices are about as close as you can get to that and Maya Mountain has the best.
