What Is Golden Milk and How Do I Make It?
That was the first question that came to my mind when someone mentioned golden milk to me a few years ago. That question was followed by “Why would I want to make Golden Milk?”. Below I’ll go through all of the questions above with the hope that I’ve convinced you to have this as your morning or bedtime drink.
What Is Golden Milk
Golden Milk in it’s most basic form is Turmeric added to milk. That’s like saying a latte is just coffee added to milk.
Just like a latte can and is so much more than that, Golden Milk is so much more than that. Golden Milk gets it’s deep flavor from adding other spices like pepper, allspice, cinnamon, or coconut oil.
Golden Milk is originally made with cow’s milk, but it can be made with plant based and dairy free milks like almond and coconut milk.
Why Would I Want To Drink Golden Milk
Outside of the fact that the taste is amazing? Well you’ve heard of the health benefits of turmeric right?
Curcumin (in turmeric) has been shown to be a powerful anti-inflammatory. Most turmerics are 3% curcumin. Maya Mountain’s turmeric has been tested in the range of 6-7%.
Black pepper has been shown to enhance the absorption of curcumin. That’s why we added it to our turmeric paste.
Lastly, we added coconut oil to our turmeric paste to make sure that the below recipe of Golden Milk is as nutritious as possible. Coconut oil is a healthy fat and makes the turmeric more available to our body.
How Do I Make Golden Milk
We’ve made it as easy as possible to consume Golden Milk.
Whisk a glass of your favorite milk in a small saucepan. Whether that be almond, rice, soy, or cow’s milk. Then mix in one table spoon of our Belizean Turmeric Paste. Bring to a low boil. Reduce heat and simmer until flavors have melded, about 10 minutes.
Pour and enjoy.
I personally prefer to add a little bit of cinnamon and honey to top it off.
